IS INTERNATIONAL ONLINE DEGREE VALID IN INDIA?

Degrees granted for courses taken at offshore campuses of international universities are only acknowledged in India if the offshore campus has been sanctioned by the country's competent authorities. Foreign degrees awarded by students through route or diploma-level colleges are not accepted by the AIU.

All Indian universities, whether regular or correspondence, distance education, distance learning, or online learning, are recognised in the United States and around the world. However, they must be UGC, DEB, and AIU approved for this.

However, there may be some exceptions; for example, Germany and, in some cases, the United Kingdom may not recognise Open school systems, so applying there would be a waste of time.

Is a US degree valid in India?

Yes, a degree obtained online/distance from a UGC-DEB recognised higher education institution is completely equivalent to a degree obtained in the traditional mode. There is no doubt that an online degree may help you advance in your job. With the rise of online education, an increasing number of people are exploring earning their degrees online.

What approvals are needed to run degree programmes through distance education?

  • University Grants Commission (UGC)
  • Distance Education Bureau (DEB)
  • Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

University Grants Commission (UGC)

The University must get the University Grants Commission's (UGC) approval before it can operate in India at any level, whether it is State, Central, Private, or Autonomous University.

Directorate of Distance Education Bureau (DEB)

The Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of New Delhi must approve the university or distance education degree. This is highly significant and required for individuals looking for or willing to study in the United States or any other region of the world.

Association of Indian universities (AIU)

The institution should belong to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and it is necessary to have an equivalency certificate issued by the AIU in order to apply for admission abroad or to admit foreign students to India.

UGC online Degrees regulation

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is India's top administrative agency responsible for overseeing and coordinating higher education. In recent years, the UGC has taken a proactive approach to promoting online and distance learning courses. In 2017, the UGC published a set of regulations tailored to recognised online degree programmes.

This comprises online programmes (i.e., where students never really interact with their teachers or classmates) and hybrid programmes (i.e., where students meet in person for portions of their education but also receive a significant amount of teaching online).

Online degrees must be offered by universities that have been approved by the National Assessment and Accreditation Board, according to UGC requirements.

Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a minimum grade of "B." The Academic Council of the university must additionally approve the programme. Furthermore, the UGC mandates that all online university degrees be supported by adequate infrastructure, which includes hardware, software, and instructional design resources.

The rules state that colleges and universities that provide online degrees must have a mechanism in place to ensure that students have access to services like counselling and libraries.

Why should you select UGC-Approved Online Degrees?

It's crucial to get an online degree that has received UGC approval for several reasons. Firstly, it guarantees that your degree will be recognised by companies and other educational institutions. This is crucial for many reasons, especially if one aspires to a better position at a reputable company or is considering pursuing higher education.

Second, your degree has been reviewed and found to match the strict criteria established by the UGC. This guarantees better educational institutions and teachers, so your course's content is of higher quality, as is how it is delivered to you. Last but not least, selecting an online degree recognised by the UGC enables you to profit from the numerous advantages.
