Adesh University, Bathinda, represents the primary academic and research venture of the Adesh Foundation, a trailblazer in healthcare, medical, and technical education. It was established in the state of Punjab in July 2012 through Act no. 6 of 2012, enacted by the Government of Punjab. This enactment was officially announced in the Punjab Government Gazette (Extraordinary) dated July 10, 2012, under the framework of the Punjab Private Universities policy of 2010.

The parent organization, the Adesh Foundation, was established in 1995, as recorded under Registration No. 618 of 1995-1996 (Registered under the Societies' Registration Act XXI, 1860). It was founded in Sri Muktsar Sahib, an economically underprivileged region of Southern Punjab, with the overarching mission of serving humanity, particularly in the domains of healthcare, medical education, paramedical education, and technical education.

The Adesh Foundation embarked on its journey in the realm of professional education and healthcare with the establishment of Adesh Institute of Engineering and Technology, Faridkot, in 1996. This institution was established to offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the field of technical education. Subsequently, the Foundation expanded its educational offerings by establishing its second degree-level institution, named Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, Muktsar, in 2002, as a tribute to the martyrs of Sri Muktsar Sahib.
