The University's inauguration took place in August 2012, with the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prof. P.K. Dhumal, officiating the event. It began its academic journey in the same year with a modest enrollment of 96 students. Today, the University's student body has grown substantially to approximately 1,939 students, which includes 171 Ph.D. candidates.
Over the past decade, the University has experienced remarkable growth in both size and reputation, establishing itself as a prestigious institution within Himachal Pradesh. Currently, the University encompasses 10 departments and 5 divisions, offering degree programs across 55 diverse fields of study. Employing a dedicated faculty and staff of 135 individuals, the institution is committed to academic excellence.
Beyond academics, the University has emerged as a leader in the state, hosting various initiatives, including the Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) established by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This TEC is the first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh and the third in the entire northern region. Additionally, the University serves as the pioneering incubator under the CM Startup scheme by the Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh. It houses a Military Training Center, a Center for Innovation, Skill Enhancement & Entrepreneurship, a Center for Cooperative Studies & Placement, a Center for Traditional Medicines & Yoga, and the Directorate of Community Services dedicated to uplifting rural communities.
