The Indian maritime sector has consistently demonstrated robust growth and is poised to become the future hub of maritime activities. The creation of Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) represents a concerted effort by the Gujarat Maritime Board to bolster this growth trajectory by addressing the industry's knowledge gaps.
Established under the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009, Gujarat Maritime University is primarily focused on becoming a worldwide center of excellence in maritime education, research, and development, as well as professional training. Its overarching goal is to enhance and expand the human capital and capabilities of the maritime industry, both in India and on the global stage. The university aspires to serve the international maritime community by producing well-educated and highly trained professionals in the maritime field.
