Himgiri Zee University was founded to address the increasing demand for well-trained human resources across various sectors, including social, educational, scientific, technical, and professional organizations. Its primary objective is to harness human potential for the promotion of sustainable economic and social development.
In pursuit of enhancing the landscape of education and employment, Mr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman of the Essel Group of Industries and Zee Telefilms, convened a dedicated team of anthropologists, sociologists, economists, and development communications professionals in 1995. Together, they established the Taleem Research Foundation in Ahmedabad. Among the Foundation's key responsibilities was the establishment of Himgiri Zee University.
Guided by the motto "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The World is One Family), Himgiri Zee University is dedicated to the vocationalization of higher education with a national scope and international reach. The university is firmly committed to a non-discriminatory ethos, refraining from biases based on factors such as caste, creed, residence, community, gender, or religion. Himgiri Zee University was established under the Uttarakhand (Amendment) Act No.- 3 of 2011 and holds recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the 1956 Act.
