Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel, a renowned industrialist and philanthropist and the visionary founder of the Nirma Group of Industries, established the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) in 1994. His vision was to promote higher education and provide exceptional educational opportunities for the youth of India. In 1995, NERF founded the Nirma Institute of Technology, which was affiliated with Gujarat University. Following this success, Nirma Institute of Management was established in 1996.
In 2003, the Government of Gujarat approved NERF's proposal to establish Nirma University in Ahmedabad. Consequently, Nirma University was founded through a special Act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. The University Grants Commission (UGC) officially recognized Nirma University under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act.
NERF is equally dedicated to primary and secondary education. It firmly believes that a solid educational foundation is essential. Therefore, NERF operates two schools, namely 'Nirma Vidyavihar,' located in Bodakdev and Chharodi, both in Ahmedabad. These schools prioritize value-based education and employ innovative teaching methods to nurture well-rounded individuals.
