RCU was established by the Ramchandra Chandravansi Welfare Trust (RCWT), which obtained registration in 2006. Since its inception, the core mission of the founding members has been to promote education among the common citizens of India, with a special focus on those residing in the underserved regions of Jharkhand and across the nation. Commencing with just two Intermediate Colleges fifteen years ago, RCWT has evolved into a diverse and prestigious educational complex, encompassing technical, professional, and medical academic institutions.

The underprivileged areas of Garhwa and Palamu present numerous challenges in bringing higher education opportunities to the forefront. RCWT has cultivated a culture of awareness and support at the school level to encourage young boys and girls to pursue higher education upon completing their schooling.

Each region and societal stratum imposes unique demands on higher education avenues, tailored to be most beneficial and relevant to their specific needs. Palamu and Garhwa districts, as well as certain neighboring regions of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, are economically disadvantaged areas heavily reliant on agriculture and mining. Consequently, there is a pressing need for education at various levels customized to suit local requirements and closely linked to the industrial and agricultural sectors, aiming to foster comprehensive regional development. The courses offered must exhibit social relevance and interdisciplinary nature. Right from its inception, RCWT has demonstrated a keen sensitivity to these issues and has thus established facilities to accommodate a wide range of academic fields.
