Type of Membership

Membership 1 - Individual Memberships

If an individual wishes to join the Association of Private Institutions And Educators (APIE) as a member, they must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Qualification: The individual must possess a postgraduate degree from a recognized university, preferably in the field of education, management, or any other relevant field.
  2. Professional Experience: The individual must have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the field of education, management, or any other relevant field.
  3. Good Standing: The individual must be in good standing and not have any criminal record or pending litigation that could harm the reputation of the APIE.
  4. Recommendations: The individual must provide at least two letters of recommendation from eminent educationists, scholars, or professionals who are familiar with the individual's work and character.
  5. Commitment to Education: The individual must have a demonstrated commitment to education and the development of private universities in India. This may include involvement in educational initiatives, research, or policy advocacy related to private universities.
  6. Ethical Standards: The individual must adhere to the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of the APIE, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Individual members who meet the above criteria will be eligible for membership to the APIE.

Membership 2 - Institutional Memberships

To join the Association of Private Institutions And Educators (APIE) as an institutional member, the institution must meet the following criteria:

  1. Accreditation: The institution must be accredited by a recognized accreditation agency, such as the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institution must have a valid accreditation status at the time of application.
  2. Legal Status: The institution must have legal status as a not-for-profit organization, trust, or society, registered under the relevant Indian laws.
  3. Good Standing: The institution must be in good standing and not have any criminal record or pending litigation that could harm the reputation of the APIE.
  4. Commitment to Education: The institution must have a demonstrated commitment to education and the development of private universities in India. This may include involvement in educational initiatives, research, or policy advocacy related to private universities.
  5. Ethical Standards: The institution must adhere to the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of the APIE, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.
  6. Membership Fees: The institution must pay the prescribed membership fees as determined by the APIE.

Membership 3 - Honorary Membership

Honorary membership to the Association of Private Institutions And Educators (APIE) is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of private university education in India. To be considered for honorary membership, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  1. Exceptional Contributions: The individual must have made exceptional contributions to the development and advancement of private university education in India. This may include leadership in educational institutions, policy advocacy, research, or philanthropy.
  2. National Recognition: The individual must have achieved national recognition for their contributions, such as awards, accolades, or other forms of public recognition.
  3. Ethical Standards: The individual must adhere to the highest ethical standards and uphold the values of the APIE, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.
  4. Good Standing: The individual must be in good standing and not have any criminal record or pending litigation that could harm the reputation of the APIE.
  5. Commitment to Education:The individual must have a demonstrated commitment to education and the development of private universities in India.
  6. Support for APIE: The individual must be willing to support the activities and initiatives of the APIE, including participating in events and sharing their expertise and insights with the APIE leadership.

Honorary members who meet the above criteria will be recognized for their exceptional contributions to private university education in India and will be invited to participate in APIE events and activities. Honorary membership is a recognition of the individual's achievements and contributions to the field, and does not confer any voting rights or privileges within the APIE.

Membership 4 - Private Institutions and Universities Membership in India

For getting provisional membership of APIE, the University/Institute must have following:

  1. Accreditation: Private universities seeking membership to the Association of Private Institutions And Educators must have valid accreditation from the University Grants Commission (UGC) or any other recognized accrediting agency.
  2. Governance: The university must have a clear governance structure that promotes transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making. The university's governing board must consist of eminent educationists, scholars, and professionals with proven track records of integrity and leadership.
  3. Curriculum and Teaching: The university must offer quality undergraduate and graduate programs in various disciplines that meet the standards set by the UGC or any other accrediting agency. The university must have a well-established faculty, with a sufficient number of qualified and experienced professors to teach and mentor students.
  4. Infrastructure: The university must have state-of-the-art infrastructure that includes well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other academic facilities. The university must also provide modern and comfortable student housing and other necessary amenities.
  5. Financial Stability: The university must have a sustainable financial model that ensures long-term financial stability. The university must have adequate financial resources to support its academic and research programs, pay its faculty and staff, and maintain its infrastructure.
  6. Social Responsibility: The university must have a strong commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. The university must actively engage with the community and contribute to the development of the local and national economy.

Private universities that meet the above criteria are eligible for individual membership to the Association of Private Institutions And Educators. Membership provides access to various benefits, including networking opportunities, advocacy, and representation in the public policy discourse.

Membership 5 - Private Overseas Institutions and Universities Outside India

The criteria for Private Overseas Institutions and Universities Outside India to join APIE - Association of Private Institutions And Educators include:

  1. Accreditation: Private overseas institutions and universities should be accredited by the relevant accreditation agencies or bodies in their home country.
  2. Validity of Degree Programs: The degree programs offered by private overseas institutions and universities should be valid and recognized in their home country.
  3. Compliance with Regulatory Requirements: Private overseas institutions and universities should comply with all the regulatory requirements of their home country, including legal and regulatory frameworks, and ensure that their operations are lawful and ethical.
  4. Financial Stability: Private overseas institutions and universities should have a stable financial standing and should be able to sustain their operations and deliver quality education over the long term.
  5. Quality of Education: Private overseas institutions and universities should demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality education and should have a track record of academic excellence and student success.
  6. Contribution to the Indian Education Sector: Private overseas institutions and universities should demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the Indian education sector and should be willing to engage in collaborations, partnerships, and knowledge-sharing initiatives with Indian private universities.

Overall, private overseas institutions and universities that meet these criteria can join APIE - Association of Private Institutions And Educators and benefit from the networking opportunities, advocacy, and representation, access to information, and professional development opportunities offered by the association.

Applying Universities and other higher education institutions must:

  1. Be degree-conferring institutions;
  2. Be public or private not-for-profit;
  3. Be recognized by their own national competent body/bodies or its equivalent;
  4. Have undergone, at the national or regional level, a process of quality assurance or accreditation, or, if such a process does not exist, be a member of a national or regional association of universities;
  5. Be dedicated to the study of several branches of knowledge;
